Biking Tour

Biking across Bhutan:

Exploring a destination on a bicycle allows you to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and scents of a place. Instead of zooming past places in cars, bicycle rides provide more opportunity to talk with people, visit places along their route and really experience the region.

Nature has given Bhutan the best – mountains that soar, rivers that flow and air that is crisp. The hospitality of nature is extended to all and the best way to soak it all up is on a bicycle. The lure of the serpentine roads are almost irresistible; you will get your fair share of tough climbs and heart thumping descents as well as bumpy roads. The roads wind up and down the mountains with exhilarating drops of thousands of meters and of course the challenge of surmounting equally high passes of over 3000 meters. The mixed forests, pasturelands, rich meadows and valleys dotted with medieval villages all point to a culture still rooted in an age long past. Consider all that and a lot more and you will have a reliable overview of what cycling in Bhutan is like. Cycling in Bhutan is an amazing experience; the pristine environment, clean fresh air and breath-taking scenery have all that it takes to make for a unique, world class trail riding and more. It puts you splat in the middle of all the local color with the hill climbs queuing one after the other and greenery dominating the landscape. There is no better way to explore and understand the heartbeat of this voluptuous hill country. Believe me, you will be hard put to find a better option.

Our tours are all painstakingly planned, thoughtfully paced, and full of vivid adventure. Mountain biking in Bhutan can enjoyed by first timers and fun lovers as well as veteran cyclists. The tour packages are designed for recreational mountain bikers of intermediate ability and fitness – with more technical or longer route options for those of a more hard-core nature, as well as easier options for those who want to just take it easy. Most people enjoy riding on the tarmac while few take to the dirt tracks too. The guests can even combine their cultural tour with few days of mountain biking or just experience biking by riding around the few towns in Bhutan.

We have a team of experienced mountain biking guides and bike mechanics. On all our mountain biking tours we have a biking guide leading the ride and a bike mechanic following closely behind in a pickup truck. We have taken high altitude issues into account when developing our biking itinerary. We have included rest days at appropriate elevations to allow time for bodies to adjust to the thinner air and we carry sufficient medication to deal with most altitude related problems. Lodging along the way will be in Bhutanese guest-houses and Hotels.

Most of the mountain biking routes in Bhutan especially on the main highways are moderate rides for experienced bikers. Save for a few routes along Thimphu, Paro, Phuntsholing and Punakha most of our roads have very light traffic.

So eat well, pedal happy, stay curious. We believe each bend in the road should bring breathtaking vistas and fresh smiles. Leave the rest to us. All you have to do is pedal!

You will be biking in most of the places. Most of the places mentioned have tarmac/paved motor roads. Veteran cyclists can choose dirt tracks if they want to. Most of the dirt tracks are through villages and forests. The cost of hiring a bike is not included in the tour payment.
